Parklands College Preparatory Faculty presents DreamWorks Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR.
DreamWorks Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR. features original music and lyrics by George Noriega and Joel Someillan, and book by Kevin Del Aguila.
As the show opens, we learn that Marty the zebra may be celebrating his tenth birthday at the Central Park Zoo with his friends Alex the lion, Gloria the hippo, and Melman the giraffe, yet he longs to experience life outside of the zoo’s walls. When Marty eventually escapes, his animal friends from the zoo pursue him into New York City. After reuniting, the animals are chased by the police, and ultimately felled by tranquilliser darts. They awake, trapped in crates, on a ship, which, through a series of events, is thrown off course. Upon reaching land, the animals discover they have been shipwrecked on the island of Madagascar. Ultimately, it is only in being so lost that they can begin to discover where they really belong.
Every Grade 4 - 6 learner as well as every Grade R - 3 dancer is getting ready to Move it! We hope to see you join in the fun too! Tickets can be purchased on Quicket.

The corridors were buzzing with excitement and laughter as our Grade 6 learners returned, refreshed and ready for the second half of the year! This week was all about jumping back into routines and reigniting the energy for learning.
🌍 Geography took us on a global journey as we explored climate and weather. Learners tackled questions like:
What does the term weather mean?
What is climate and how is it different?
Our learners looked at this website where they can change and view different weather conditions on the world map: https://climatemaps.romgens.com/
🔌 In Science, we flipped the switch on a new topic: Electricity. Learners explored how electrical circuits work and learned how to draw simple circuit diagrams using the correct symbols for batteries, bulbs, switches and wires. This hands-on topic sparked lots of curiosity and excitement!
🎯 Our learners paused for self-reflection and creativity as they created their own Vision Boards for the remainder of the year. These beautiful posters are filled with personal goals, positive affirmations and images that reflect the learners' hopes and dreams for the months ahead. They are truly inspiring!
It’s been a busy and energetic start to the quarter and there’s so much more to come! 🌟

We look forward to a meaningful and hands-on learning experience for our Grade 6s!
We kicked off Quarter 3 with big smiles, warm hugs, and the excitement of being reunited with our friends after a well-deserved break!
This week, we launched our new Project-Based Learning (PBL) experience for the quarter: Real Life 4 Kids – a dynamic, 3-dimensional life skills programme designed to give learners a taste of the real world! Through this interactive simulation, learners will open bank accounts, earn salaries and interest, purchase land, build homes, manage businesses, and explore city contracts. It’s a fun and eye-opening journey into the basics of financial literacy and responsible citizenship.
In Mathematics, we began the quarter by consolidating key concepts from Quarter 2. This strong foundation will support us as we dive into fresh, exciting mathematical challenges in the weeks ahead.
Our History adventure this quarter takes us all the way back to Ancient Egypt! We started by exploring why the Egyptians settled along the Nile River and discovered the many ways this mighty river supported their civilization – from farming and transport to daily survival.
It’s already shaping up to be a Quarter full of learning, creativity, and growth. We can't wait to see where our journey takes us next!
What an exciting and productive week we’ve had in Grade 4!
In English, we kicked off our new class novel, James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. The learners were immediately drawn into the magical and mysterious world of James, and we’re all looking forward to following his extraordinary adventure inside the giant peach!
In Afrikaans, we dived into our new theme: die strand (the beach). Learners explored new vocabulary through a fun and fast-paced group challenge where they had to remember and use Afrikaans words correctly to earn valuable house points. It was a brilliant way to learn through collaboration and friendly competition!
In History, we introduced the concept of Venn diagrams to compare different forms of land transport from the past. Learners especially enjoyed examining and comparing bicycles from various eras. Through this, they discovered how bicycle designs have changed over time and discussed the similarities and differences between them.
We also explored the term “19th century”, and learners learned that it refers to the years 1801 to 1900 - a time before electricity and cars, when many inventions were just beginning to shape the world we know today.
We’re so proud of the curiosity, collaboration and enthusiasm our Grade 4s showed this week. Keep it up, Superstars!
Congratulations to Elise who has been selected as part of the A+ Students Western Cape Provincial Team for the upcoming 19th A+ Students National Championship 2025. Elise will be representing the Western Cape at the national championship and has earned her Western Cape colours for Abacus Maths - a truly commendable accomplishment!
In the third quarter, the formal assessments in Grade 4 - 6 will not only consist of control tests in certain subjects (which will require studying), they will also take the form of projects to be completed over a period of a few weeks. The projects will be completed entirely at school, under the guidance of the teachers. While we know that many parents are eager to assist, we kindly ask that you allow your child to complete the project independently within the classroom environment.
Project-based learning is highly beneficial for a number of reasons.
It promotes deeper understanding of academic content by allowing learners to explore topics in greater depth.
It encourages critical thinking and problem-solving.
It fosters independence and accountability, helping children take ownership of their own learning.
It develops research, communication and collaboration skills as learners are often required to work together for certain sections of the project.
It builds confidence as learners realise they are capable of creating something meaningful through their own effort.
These projects are more than just an academic requirement, they are designed to encourage deeper understanding, critical thinking and creativity. We look forward to seeing our learners grow into curious, capable and confident individuals in the process.

We kicked off sport this past week – and what a week it was!
Hockey, Rugby, Netball, and Golf were all in full swing, with coaches and learners diving into their sessions with enthusiasm and focus. Despite the winter chill, the energy on our fields and courts was anything but cold – it was fantastic to see our athletes back in action, working hard and having fun. Chess you are up! Chess will begin Tuesday next week!
Our Physical Education lessons drew inspiration from the recent Hyrox Nationals held during the school holidays. Learners engaged in high-energy, strength-based circuits that challenged their fitness and mindset – a great way to ignite Quarter 3 with purpose and passion!
Please note: Thursday & Friday Sports (31 July & 1 Aug '25) have been cancelled due to the schools production Madagascar Jr. Wishing all our learning all the very luck! We certain it will be incredible!

Our library programme is off to a great start as we are having fun with the latest book in the World’s Worst series by the prolific David Walliams - the World’s Worst Superheroes. These ten stories and the unlikely heroes are as silly as you have come to expect from this author and our readers are loving it.

Holiday Highlights in Senior Prep Robotics
While many were enjoying a well-earned break, our Senior Prep Robotics teams were hard at work, and the holidays turned into a hive of exciting activity and learning!
We’re thrilled to share that our very first FIRST LEGO League (FLL) team kicked off their journey during the break. The team jumped right into action with interactive Kahoots, creative building challenges, and fun team-building games to get to know one another better. They also explored careers in the technology and engineering space—an inspiring glimpse into the future for these budding innovators.
Meanwhile, our WRO (World Robot Olympiad) teams didn’t let the holidays slow them down. They spent their time coding, troubleshooting, and refining their solutions as they prepare for their upcoming regional competition. The commitment and collaboration from these teams has been nothing short of incredible.
A real highlight came for our Future Innovators team, who had the amazing opportunity to meet Bryan De Bates from the Houston Space Center online. Bryan shared fascinating insights about life on Mars, including how underground glaciers could be used for water, what scientists have discovered in Martian rocks, and how plants might one day be grown in space. It was a mind-expanding session that sparked big ideas and even bigger dreams.
We’re so proud of the energy, enthusiasm, and curiosity shown by all our robotics learners during the holidays. Watch this space—big things are coming!
