The use of UBER for learners in the Preparatory Faculty

Please be aware that learners under the age of 13 may NOT use UBER without an adult. We are aware that UBER has a teen service however this is for 13 - 17 year olds only and they may NOT use the service with any child under the age of 13 years. Any child under 13 years old may only use an UBER with an 18 year old and above.

Absenteeism during exams and formal assessments

We have unfortunately seen  an increase of requests for learners to leave on early holidays or miss assessments for personal reasons.  Kindly note that the only valid reasons endorsed by the Education Department are as follows:

Learners may only miss an assessment (examination) supported by documentary evidence, for the following reasons:

Late Collection Fee

We have had an increase of learners being collected late, please be aware that learners not collected on time will be billed R50 within the first 30 minutes of being late.  A reminder of our times as set out in the Parent and Learner Directory pg 24: The College doors open at 07:30 for the Preparatory Faculty.  Admin opens at 07:30. Aftercare ends at 17:00 daily.  Please ensure that learners are collected timeously. The campus is locked promptly at 17:00.

Please check the times stated in the blog for collection after extra murals and sport.

Start of the School Day

A reminder that Senior Preparatory learners begin their day at 07:45. All learners must be clocked in and ready for the day before this time. Arrival times will be monitored this quarter and learners arriving late will receive a demerit. Learners who attend early morning activities must clock-in before attending their session in order to avoid being recorded as 'Late Arrival' on the biometric system.

Lockers and Locks

Locks are now available from reception for R85. Locks will be billed to your account.

The following email was sent to Senior Preparatory learners and a discussion was held in class to enable learners to ask questions and to seek clarity on points they were unsure about:

Dear Learners

A reminder that your bags with your iPads are always kept safe and locked away. You will be given until Monday to ensure you know where to keep your bags and to sort out a lock for your locker. For sport practice, bags are kept in your lockers and collected after your session. For away games your bags must remain on the bus which is locked, your team manager will let you know if there is a different arrangement.

We have installed lockers in the Senior Prep changing rooms. These lockers are not allocated to any learner and can be used by anyone. Learners must purchase a lock from reception to use in the changing room lockers. No bags may be stored on the changing room benches and no bags may be stored in the changing room lockers without locks. These lockers are to be used by learners in the afternoon for matches at school. Your team manager will let you know if there is a different arrangement however this should still be in a safe place which is locked.

Sports bags are stored in club 7 and 11. For security purposes learners may add a lock to their zips to secure the content particularly when using the bag outside for matches.

Any bags found in the passages or left unaccompanied will be taken to the office and you will receive a demerit upon collection.

Please look at your Parent and Learner Directory (your class teachers shared it with you at the beginning of the year) page 2 has the link to the General Information for the ICT Acceptable Use Policy. Make sure you read through the Policy, if there is anything you do not understand, please ask your class teacher to explain.

Read the following:

- Page 1 of ICT Acceptable Use Policy under Respect Personal Safety and Privacy: While at school, electronic devices must be kept on your person or locked in your locker.
- Page 14 in the Parent and Learner Directory:  The Learner Code of Conduct
- Page 17 Level 2 Rules and Agreements: Neglecting to properly secure your electronic device. Please read the rest of the examples.

If you are not sure about any of the above please ask your class teacher or you may ask Mrs Steynberg or Ms Drawbridge.

Senior Preparatory Drive Through and LEFT TURN ONLY

We kindly request that parents are courteous and respectful towards others during drop off and collection times.  Please remember that extra time is needed when dropping off and collecting due to the traffic congestion during this time.  Parents who are exiting the Senior Preparatory campus are reminded that they may ONLY TURN LEFT as indicated by the traffic sign. Thank you to the traffic department who was on duty this morning to remind our parents.

Deliveries

We kindly request that parents not send delivery drivers i.e. Uber eats to deliver food to their child/children. Unfortunately, some delivery services are not happy to bring items into the building, and our security guard is not able to walk up and down as a delivery service. Reception is also not able to walk around finding learners if they don't collect at break time.

Should a learner forget their lunch at home, they must come to reception, and we will give you a call. If you are unable to drop something off, we will make a plan.

Parent Details

We ask that parents please update their contact details as well as the person they have nominated as an alternative contact. Parents can email mkotze@parklands.co.za or lmillar@parklands.co.za and they will update it for you.
