On Monday we will be releasing reports on the Ed-admin Multi-Portal App. Please ensure that you have downloaded the app in order to to access your child's report. Parents will be notified via email and through in app notifications once reports are available.
Thank you to each of our teachers and learners for your hard work this quarter. It has indeed been a memorable summer quarter.
Reminder that school closes on Friday, 28 March at 13:00 and there will be no aftercare that afternoon.
The autumn quarter commences on Tuesday 8 April.

Academic News
As we approach the end of the first quarter, we are very pleased with how our Grade 4 - 6 learners have settled into their new grade, with a new teacher, and we have seen some wonderful new friendships flourish. We are proud of their achievements and academic growth during this period.
Although our formal assessments for this quarter have concluded, we would like to emphasise the importance of continued attendance for all learners until the quarter officially ends. Your child's presence in class during this time is essential for their academic progress as we have already introduced new concepts from the second quarter curriculum.
Looking ahead to next quarter, please note that our teaching schedule has been carefully planned to accommodate the upcoming public holidays and mid-term break. Due to these calendar constraints, teachers have created precise instructional timelines to ensure all curriculum requirements are met. As such, we strongly advise against planning any extended holidays during the second quarter.
The Education Department monitors learner absenteeism, and the only valid reasons endorsed by the Education Department are as follows:
Learners may only miss an assessment (examination) supported by documentary evidence for the following reasons:
- Illness (must be supported by a valid medical doctor's certificate)
- Family bereavement (letter required)
- Representing the country or province in a sporting or cultural event (official letter required)
All absences for these reasons must be accompanied by the appropriate documentary evidence as indicated above.
Your cooperation in maintaining regular attendance helps us provide the best possible education for your child.
Reports and feedback meetings
Senior Preparatory Reports will be released on Monday 24 March and report feedback meetings will take place on Tuesday 25 March, Wednesday 26 March and Thursday 27 March. Your child’s class teacher has shared a link to their Google Calendar in order for you to book a meeting to discuss your child’s academic progress.
Appointments are usually 15 mins in length. We greatly value our parents’ and teachers’ time and urge parents to be on time in order to ensure that other parents are not kept waiting. Please contact your child’s class teacher directly should you be unavailable to meet on the specific days and times scheduled.

Grade 5 News
The Grade 5s had an exciting week of learning and creativity! In Robotics, learners had a blast coding with Microbits, turning their ideas into interactive creations. In English, they put their creativity to the test by designing their own unique recipes. We explored descriptive writing and made our peers guess a mystery object based on a short descriptive paragraph.
The Grade 5s also went on an outing to !Khwa ttu Nature Reserve where they explored the beauty of nature and discovered fascinating things about the hunter-gatherer way of life which they have been learning about in History this quarter. The day began with an exciting bus ride, setting the tone for a fun-filled journey ahead. Upon arrival, they enjoyed a relaxing snack amidst nature, allowing everyone to unwind and take in the beautiful surroundings. They then took a leisurely walk through the herb and plant garden, where participants learned about indigenous plants, their uses, and medicinal properties. The highlight of the day was the immersive simulation room, where they stepped back in time to experience what life was like in the past. With tracking, realistic sounds, huts, and traditional clothing, the room offered a fascinating glimpse into daily life. We wrapped up the outing with an exhilarating game drive, spotting wildlife in their natural habitat and experiencing the thrill of the wild up close. It was a day full of discovery, excitement, and unforgettable memories!

Grade 4 News
Our Grade 4s have been cooking up a storm—literally! This week, they had a blast reading and writing their own recipes in both English and Afrikaans. But the real treat is coming next week when they’ll bring their Afrikaans recipes to life by creating their very own delicious sandwiches in class. We can’t wait to see (and maybe even taste) their culinary masterpieces!
In Geography, we took a deep dive into what makes South Africa truly special. Our young explorers discovered the meaning behind our national symbols and celebrated their heritage by designing a unique passport. It’s been a week full of creativity, culture, and, soon, some scrumptious sandwiches.
Remember to be the "I" in kind!
Science Club
Learners enjoyed their final Science club session by learning more about mission patches. NASA’s astronaut crews design mission patches to symbolise the goals and objectives of their missions. Learners used their iPads to create their own unique mission patches.
Mathletics Certificates
Congratulations to those who have levelled up in Mathletics this week and received their silver certificates.
Outreach
In the final week of the quarter, we will be collecting marshmallow eggs / boxes / strips or individual packs. These will be shared with senior citizens in our community as well as our neighbouring schools. We would love you to be part of sharing opportunities as we get closer to Easter time.

🏅 Quarter 1 Sports Wrap-Up – What a Quarter It Has Been!
As we wrap up an action-packed Quarter 1, we look back with immense pride at what our young athletes have achieved in just a few short months. From first-time fixtures to unbeaten seasons, our learners have taken on every challenge with heart, grit, and smiles!
🏏 Cricket Fever Hits Parklands
What a season it was! From Grade 2 all the way up to Grade 6, cricket was alive and thriving. A special shout-out to our U10 and U12 cricket teams, both of whom went unbeaten this term—an incredible feat and a testament to their dedication and teamwork. Our U8s and U9s also made their mark, with many learners playing their first competitive matches ever!
💦 Making Waves in the Pool
Our swimming team brought their A-game all quarter, culminating in an unforgettable final inter-schools gala where Parklands College Preparatory secured a fantastic 2nd place finish. For many of our U8 swimmers, it was their first ever gala, and they made a splash with courage and pride. Coach Nadine and the team have laid a brilliant foundation for the terms ahead!
🥎 Softball – A Quarter of Growth
Our softballers showed incredible development and resilience. For many, it was their first season learning the ropes, and every game was a learning opportunity. Despite some tough results, our players showed commitment, joy, and a real passion for the game—what more could we ask for?
♟️ Chess Champions Rising
Quarter 1 also saw our chess learners representing the College in a tournament, sharpening their minds and learning valuable lessons in patience and strategy. Watch this space—our chess squad is only getting started!
🌟 External Achievers
Beyond the school, our learners continued to shine in external sports and competitions, representing clubs and regional teams with pride. We love seeing their success across the broader sporting community!
As we say goodbye to sunny afternoons and prepare to welcome cooler weather, it’s almost time to lace up those boots and step into Autumn sports. That means netball hoops, hockey sticks, barefoot rugby, and soccer gear are ready to take centre stage!
Here’s to Quarter 2!
We can’t wait to see more action and growth and hear your cheers on the field and court. Thank you, parents, for your unwavering support—you are a huge part of our sporting success!

CULTURE
We had a wonderful culture assembly this week as our choirs gave us a preview of the songs that they performed at the Autumn Awakenings Concert.
Mr Ernstzen shared at assembly that practising an instrument engages both sides of your brain - the right side for creativity and emotions, and the left side for logic and problem-solving. This teamwork strengthens memory, focus, and skills in math and language. He explained that music education benefits every school subject, as research shows learners who play instruments often perform better in reading, math, and science. So each practice session not only improves musical ability but also sharpens your mind for all other learning.
We also had wonderful piano performances by Ted and Elise.

Autumn Awakenings Choir Concert
On Wednesday we hosted school choirs from Table View Primary, Blouberg Ridge and Blouberg International joining the Parklands College Junior and Senior Preparatory Choirs. It was an incredible evening of music and song with a full house audience. Thank you to Mrs Buckle, Mr Ernstzen, Mrs Domingo and all of the choir members for ending our cultural calendar on such a highlight this quarter.

Madagascar Materials Collection
Will you spend some time tidying cupboards, drawers, and the garage over the holiday?
Our Culture department has been designing the costumes and set for our production of Madagascar Jr. Please help us by collecting and sending the following recyclable materials to school (see poster).
We would also appreciate help in finding old scout uniforms.
LIBRARY
We have reached the end of an exciting quarter, but the good news is that there is no end to our book adventures. April heralds our World Book Day celebrations, with so many highlights to look forward to. We will welcome HOOKED ON BOOKS theatre company in the first week that we are back, while planning what we will wear on 23 April for World Book Day, and saving our money for a fabulous two-day sale of the latest and greatest in children’s books. Watch this space for delicious details!
Grade Four Book Club
We are delighted to announce the start of the Grade 4 Book Club. Members gather in the library on a Friday morning to have fun with their favourite things, BOOKS, of course. New members are most welcome to join and can talk to Ms Magadana, our librarian, to find out more.
Birthday Books
Do you have a birthday coming up next quarter? We have a lovely tradition at the preparatory faculty of donating a book to the library on your birthday. Speak to Ms Magadana to find out more.
This week we celebrated with Sinesipho and Logan. Thank you for the lovely Birthday Books - we added Dork Diaries: I Love Paris! and My First Book of South African Birds to our collection.
