Senior Preparatory Weekly Memo

Home 6 September 2024

Dear Parents

This blog will be our last blog for the quarter and hopefully it is a little lighter when we wake up and warmer when quarter 4 begins.

In assembly this week we had a standoff between the Sports and Culture department to see who could call the most learners to the stage! It is absolutely amazing to see the wonderful contributions our learners are making to the sports and culture department. Often we see learner supporting both departments and it is wonderful to see their growth and development in both genre's.

A reminder that school closes on Friday 13 September at 13:00.
There is no aftercare on the day.

Message from the Head of Sport

Dear Senior and Junior Preparatory Parents,

A heartfelt thank you for your unwavering support and encouragement throughout the wet and cold Quarter 3. Your dedication on the sidelines, despite the weather, has been truly appreciated.

As we move into Quarter 4, it's time to get the sunblock out and hope for some sunshine! Cricket, Tennis, Softball, Swimming, and Water polo are upon us, and we’re excited to see you all cheering and supporting from the sidelines once again.

Before we bid farewell to this quarter, we look forward to seeing you all this coming Saturday for our very first North vs South Sports Day. Let’s come together to cheer on our Netball, Football, Rugby, and Chess players throughout the day!

Thank you once again for your amazing support.

External Achievements: District, Regional & Provincial Sports Achievements

The External Achievements form must be utilised by parents of learners who have been selected to represent an official Regional, District and Provincial team outside School.  This document serves as a communication tool between the parents and the School to record a child’s External Regional, District and Provincial selections and achievements.

Please note that only District, Regional or Provincial selections and achievements will be recognised on stage at the weekly assemblies, as well displayed in the weekly School Blog.

We will keep record of learners’ external achievements for recognition purposes at the end of the year. The form must also be submitted along with an official letter from the respective sports body confirming your child’s selection or achievement.

Please also submit a high-resolution photo with your child wearing his or her District, Regional or Provincial uniform.

Learners will only be recognised once all documentation has been received

Please only submit this form if your child has been selected for an official District, Regional or Provincial team.

Cultural acknowledgements will be recognised for exceptional achievements in external examinations, Eisteddfods and theatrical productions.

This form, along with the supporting sports or culture documentation must be emailed latest Tuesday afternoon to be recognised in the Friday’s assembly and Blog. Library News

Birthday Books

Ntokoza, Sadey, Milani, Jakeem and Oluwatobi contributed to our libraries this week with a marvellous selection of Birthday Books. Thank you to Sadey for the beautiful version of Cinderella, and to Ntokozo for some good advice from Little Bear who learns how to be happy. Milani is adding the ever-popular No Brainer to our Wimpy Kid collection, and Jakeem thoughtfully brought something for all ages with The Jellyfish Jiggle for the younger children, as well as an inspiring space adventure of Astrid who is determined to be an astronaut although she is wearing a hearing aid. Thank you also to Oluwatobi for a breathtaking fantasy adventure titled Cameron Battle and the Hidden Kingdom.

READATHON WEEK

This time of the year we always pay tribute to one of the greatest children’s authors of all times, and celebrate Roald Dahl Day during the week of Roald Dahl’s birthday on 13 September. His iconic characters live on in many languages and cultures all over the world, and the more than 500 words that he has created have enriched the English language immeasurable.

Publishers are keeping this legacy alive with new publications every year, and this year there is a beautiful set of the books in their original covers, in case you are collecting for your home library. You can also look out for a new book titled The Twits Next Door, in which the revolting Mr and Mrs Twit get new neighbours, the Lovelies. Will they get on with each other and be good neighbours? Not a chance! The Twits hate the Lovelies and will do anything to get rid of their horribly nice neighbours. But what will happen when the lovely new neighbours start to fight back? Loads of fun guaranteed!
