Dear Parents
It has been wonderful to have our school filled with the sounds of laughter as the children have returned. School is not the same without you!
It has been a busy week settling in to new classes with a new teacher and making new friends.
The Weekly Memo has a general notices section, news from each of the grades as well as sections for culture, sport and robotics. Please ensure that you take note of all the details shared in the memo each week.

Welcome Back Senior Preparatory!
The start of Grade 6 has filled our corridors and playgrounds with an infectious sense of excitement and anticipation. Laughter, friendly catch-ups and eager conversations have marked the beginning of what promises to be a meaningful and memorable year. As the leaders of the Senior Prep, they have already begun to step up, showing responsibility and a wonderful sense of teamwork. It has been heartening to see how quickly they have adapted, reconnecting with friends and forming positive relationships with their new teachers in a warm and supportive environment.
This week, we focused on setting the tone for the year ahead by creating Grade 6 vision boards, encouraging learners to reflect on their goals, strengths and hopes for the journey ahead. These activities sparked thoughtful discussions and allowed learners to share their aspirations while building a strong sense of community within the class. Time was also spent getting familiar with routines, expectations and classroom spaces, ensuring everyone feels secure and ready for the challenges and opportunities that Grade 6 will bring.
Books are covered, stationery is organised and minds are ready for learning. Most importantly, our Grade 6 learners are excited, motivated and eager to give their best as they take on their leadership role within the Senior Prep.
We are looking forward to walking this journey together and supporting each learner as they grow, learn and thrive throughout the year ahead.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Elise Guo who represented South Africa at the 23rd PAMA Global Abacus & Mental Arithmetic Competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 21 December 2025. Alongside 11 other learners from across other provinces, she formed part of the PAMA South Africa Team 2025, proudly wearing the national colours on the international stage.
Welcome to all our Grade 5s! What an exciting first week back it's been. Our learners have embraced the transition beautifully, covering books, organising new lockers, exploring new classrooms, and settling in with new teachers and new friends. The energy and enthusiasm have been wonderful to see.
We've hit the ground running across all subjects. In Maths, learners explored the Grade 5 Mathletics curriculum and had great fun changing up their avatars. History introduced our fascinating topics for the year: Early Southern Africa, Egypt, and Heritage. In Geography, we dove into the exciting world of maps and learned all about how to use them.
We're off to a fantastic start and can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings!
Grade 4 has officially begun, and what an exciting start it has been! Our learners wasted no time settling in on the Senior Preparatory Campus, jumping straight into learning with curiosity, confidence, and plenty of enthusiasm. From day one, the classroom has been buzzing with questions, conversations, and creative thinking.
We kicked off the year by diving straight into learning about communities. Learners explored the different types of communities around them and discovered the many communities they themselves belong to - from families and schools to neighbourhoods, sports teams, and friendship groups.
Our History lessons brought out the inner explorers, as learners learned about archaeologists and artefacts. The highlight? Pretending to be archaeologists themselves! Learners imagined, designed, and explained their own artefacts, proudly presenting their discoveries like true professionals.
Despite the busy schedule, our Grade 4 learners are settling into the new routines with ease. They are adapting beautifully to new expectations, showing responsibility, independence, and a genuine love for learning. We are so excited to see how they continue to grow, explore, and shine as the year unfolds!

Please find a link to the notification letter informing the College of a learner's external achievements at Area/Regional/Provincial level.
2026 LIBRARY CHALLENGE
Our year kicks off with our customary photo challenge, and this time our furry friends come into play. We can’t wait to see all the photos of you and your beautiful pets sharing a story.
WELCOME TO OUR LIBRARY
It has been wonderful welcoming the learners in the library. Some popped in to meet the new librarian, but could not wait any longer and started borrowing books from the first day back.
Well done to Iva who was the first person to borrow a book this year. She is a frequent visitor to the library.
BIRTHDAY BOOKS
We are delighted to have received two wonderful Birthday Books this week from learners who celebrated their birthdays in January.
Mihle donated The Rescue Princesses: The star bracelet by Paula Harrison. Happy birthday and thank you, Mihle.
Brody has chosen a book from The Breakfast Club Adventures series, by the inspiring Manchester soccer player, Marcus Rashford. This young man is not only an international sports star, but also a prolific children’s author who works tirelessly to uplift children in need. Thank you so much, Brody, for starting off a new series for us.
Each learner has been allocated a locker on campus. Please ensure your child has put a lock on their locker. Combination locks are available from reception at R85 per lock, and will be billed to your account. Bags with iPads should be kept safe and locked away.
For sport practice, bags are kept in the learner's locker and collected after the session.
For away games bags must remain on the bus which is locked, the team manager will let learners know if there is a different arrangement.
There are also lockers installed in the Senior Prep changing rooms for larger items (eg Cricket bags). These lockers are not allocated to any learner and can be used by anyone. Learners must purchase an additional lock from reception to use in the changing room lockers. No bags may be stored on the changing room benches and no bags may be stored in the changing room lockers without locks. These lockers are to be used by learners in the afternoon for matches at school. The team manager will let learners know if there is a different arrangement, however this should still be in a safe place which is locked.
For security purposes, learners may add a lock to their zips to secure the contents, particularly when using the bag outside for matches.
Any bags found in the passages or left unattended will be taken to reception.
If you have dress-up clothes, dolls’ clothes, or home-corner play items in good condition that your family no longer uses - especially after the festive season - we would gladly give them a new home in our Pre-Primary classrooms. These little additions make playtime richer for the children. Donations can be dropped off at the Pre-Primary at your convenience.
Learners require a packed lunch box and a bottle of water for an early morning snack and two break times.
Please note that Parklands College is a nut free zone and no nut butters i.e. peanut butter, Nutella or nuts may be sent to school.
Learners store their lunchbox and water bottles in the classroom. All items must be clearly marked with your child's name.
There are NO tuckshop facilities for the Senior Preparatory learners.
Please apply sunblock on all exposed parts of your child’s body before they come to school in the morning. All learners must wear the Parklands College cap/hat for break time and sports.
In order to protect your child’s skin from the harsh rays of the sun, we have a “no hat, no play” policy.
Please ensure that learners arrive on time for the start of the academic day. Parents are welcome to drop their children off between 07:30 and 07:45 and are requested to use the Drop and Go Zone on the SP Campus in Wood Drive.
Parents may pull into the yellow zone for learners to get out and walk into school on their own. Please do not park or leave your car in the Drop and Go Zone.
All learners must be clocked in and ready for the day before this 07:45. Learners who attend early morning activities must clock-in before attending their session in order to avoid being recorded as 'Late Arrival' on the biometric system.
Aftercare is a combined group of Grade 4-6 learners. Parents, please inform the College via email should you wish to make use of our aftercare facility. Learners may wear their Parklands College sports uniform. Learners attending Aftercare will be escorted to the venue. Parents who wish to make use of our aftercare facilities, must please inform us via e-mail.
School is LOCKED promptly at 16h45 daily. Please assist us by ensuring that your child is collected on time allowing our dedicated staff to return home to their own families. A late collection fee of R250 per half-hour (or part thereof) will apply for children collected from aftercare after 17h00.
For safety reasons no learners are permitted to wait outside the College gates at any time.
Parents entering our campus are required to have a car identification sticker which can be collected from reception. By displaying the sticker on your car you will gain easy access to the College premises. Vehicles who do not have a sticker will be scanned. ‘At the Gate’ Access Solution is used by the College and involves drivers' and car license discs being scanned. This information is stored on a secure database off-site for future reference should the need arise. Pedestrians are also required to produce identification.
We request, for the safety of our learners, that parents and visitors who are on our campus during academic time also sign in at reception and receive a visitors badge. The badge must be returned to reception before leaving campus.
College striped blazers with new braiding
Please be reminded that all learners need to wear the new striped blazer with the braiding.
