Q3 Co-Curricular sign-ups

On behalf of the staff, parents, and learners of the Senior Preparatory, we would like to thank CTM Northgate for their generous sponsorship of our new MP200 digital scoreboard.
While we eagerly await its installation, the excitement among our coaches and young athletes is already building. This technology is going to elevate the experience of our sports fixtures once it is up and running.
Here is come advice from our KLIKD Partners on setting up a Holiday Peace Pact for device usage. Register and download their tween parent contract to discuss with your child.
*The KLIKD Holiday Peace Pact* (Yes, It’s a Thing - and You Need One)
School’s out. Routines are gone. Screens? Everywhere.
And suddenly, your home sounds like this:
“Five more minutes!”💣
“You said that an hour ago.”🆘
“You’ve been on that thing since this morning - get off!!?”🤯
*Welcome to the holiday device battles. Daily. Draining. Totally avoidable.*
Here’s the shift: don’t fight it - agree on it.
What if, instead of constant negotiating (and nagging), you and your kids start the holiday with a simple agreement?
* Not rules you enforce.
* Not lectures they ignore.
* A shared understanding you both buy into.🩵🩵
Why it works
When kids help shape the plan:
• They feel heard → less resistance
• Expectations are clear → fewer arguments
• Consequences are agreed → no surprise blow-ups
It turns “Put that away!” into “Hey, what did we agree?”
*What goes into your holiday agreement?*
Keep it simple, realistic, and collaborative:
1 _. Daily device time_
How much is fair? When can it happen?
2. _No-go zones_
Meals? Mornings? Before bed?
3. _Must-dos before screen time_
Chores, movement, reading, family time.
4. _Tech-free moments_
Pick a few sacred times everyone sticks to.
5. _What happens if things slip_
(Not punishments - agreed consequences.)
*The magic ingredient: co-create it*
Download our KLIKD Holiday Agreement https://klikd.co.za/download/?resources=holidaycontract and sit down together. 💪🏽💪🏽💥💬
Ask:
• “What do you think is fair?”
• “What would make this holiday feel good for everyone?”
• “What should we do if we don’t stick to it?”
*Write it down. Pop it on the fridge. Refer back to it.*
And here’s the real gift…
* Less shouting.
* Less policing.
* Less guilt (for you and them).
* More actual holiday.
*At Klikd, we believe the goal isn’t less tech - it’s better relationships around it.*
So consider this your small holiday gift from us:🎁🎁🤓
*A calmer home. Fewer battles. And a plan everyone can live with.*
Stay connected

In Grade 4 – 6, informal and formal assessments for Quarter 1 and Quarter 2 are added together and weighted according to the revised CAPS requirements for 2026 as stipulated by the Department of Basic Education. In order for learners to progress to the next grade, they need to meet the following minimum requirements at the end of the academic year for Grade 4, 5 and 6:
50% in English Home Language

This week in Grade 6 English, our learners became actors and filmmakers! 🎭🎥 Working in groups, they were given a script from a chapter of our class novel, The Firework-Maker's Daughter, and spent time rehearsing their lines and planning their actions. Once they were performance-ready, we recorded their scenes in front of the green screen before editing them into their very own mini movies. The Grade 6 learners showed wonderful creativity, teamwork, and enthusiasm, putting in a tremendous amount of effort to bring the story to life. It was such a fun and memorable experience, and we are so proud of the amazing movies they created! 🌟🎬📖
📚🌟 Grade 6 Reading Eggs Stars! 🌟📚
A huge congratulations to our Grade 6 Reading Eggs stars; Joshua, Takunda, Eesa, and Courtney! 🎉👏 Their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to completing their assignments have truly stood out. 💻📖 Your hard work is paying off, and we are so proud of each one of you! ✨ Keep up the amazing effort and continue reaching for the stars! 🚀⭐
Radial Symmetry in Art
Our Grade 6 learners spent the last few weeks of Quarter 2 exploring ‘Radial Symmetry’ and its traditional origins in different cultures. One of our classes explored Tibetan mandalas using sand art, another class explored Chinese paper folding mandalas, the other class explored Roman black window mandalas and our final class explored Aztec & African bead mandalas. The result is stunning. To conclude our Radial symmetry enquiry the students were taught how to create digital art mandalas using different graphic techniques on our IPads, which they did so well in. Enjoy a beautiful display of work below.
Calculator Fun in Grade 6 Mathematics
Today, our Grade 6 learners took part in a fun and engaging calculator activity. Using their calculators, they entered calculations and then turned the calculators upside down to reveal hidden words on the screen. The challenge was to solve the calculations correctly and discover the mystery words.
The excitement in the classroom was incredible! Learners eagerly worked through the problems and could not wait for the next word to appear. Not only did the activity strengthen their calculator skills, but it also provided valuable practice with BODMAS and the order of operations.
Learning mathematics should be both educational and enjoyable, and today’s lesson was a wonderful example of how a simple activity can create enthusiasm, curiosity, and a love for learning.

Elise recently achieved an outstanding result in the Western Cape A PLUS Competition, placing 5th overall.
She has also been awarded the prestigious title of Champion of Champions, an achievement of which we are immensely proud.
The highlight of the week for the Grade Fives was our unforgettable outing to the Planetarium, Digital Dome, and the Iziko Museum.
We were mesmerised by the breathtaking rock paintings of Southern Africa before being launched on a jaw-dropping voyage through our solar system, discovering the wonders of the planets in the most spectacular way imaginable!
We sharpened our writing skills in English by crafting exciting reports about our very own outing adventure, putting our newfound report-writing knowledge straight into action.
In History, we journeyed deep into the mysteries of Ancient Egypt, virtually stepping inside some of the world's most famous tombs. Our Geography projects on Mining in Space are looking absolutely stellar as we put the finishing touches on them ahead of next week's presentations.
Creating our provinces within South Africa
Over the last few weeks, our Grade 4 learners have been exploring the nine provinces of South Africa in a fun and creative way. They have enjoyed learning more about what makes each province unique, as well as why each one plays an important role in our beautiful country.
As part of this learning experience the learners worked together in groups and were encouraged to use a variety of materials to create their projects. This allowed them to be creative, think carefully about their province and use everyday materials in an imaginative and responsible way.
Through these activities the learners have shown teamwork, creativity, curiosity and a growing appreciation for South Africa’s rich diversity, cultures, landmarks and resources. It has been wonderful to see them share their ideas and deepen their understanding of the country we call home.
Outing to the Cape Town Science Center
Last Friday, our Grade 4 learners went on their much-anticipated outing to the Cape Town Science Center, and what an exciting day it was! From the moment they arrived, you could see the sparkle of excitement in their eyes as they tried to take in everything around them.
There was so much to explore that many of them did not know where to start. Should they begin by building a house and testing their design skills or should they head straight to the big communication dishes to discover how messages can travel across distances? Everywhere they turned, there was something new to investigate, touch, build or question.
The outing gave our learners a wonderful opportunity to experience science in a fun and practical way. They were able to think like young engineers, curious scientists and creative problem-solvers while learning more about how the world around us works.
It was a day filled with discovery, excitement and lots of “wow!” moments.

New Kits, New Possibilities: LEGO® Education Computer Science & AI Kits Have Arrived!
There is something special about the moment brand-new equipment arrives — and this week at the SP, our First LEGO League teams got to be the very first at the College to tear open the boxes and dive in.
The LEGO Education Computer Science & AI kits are here, and the excitement was real. Learners worked through hands-on sequences, loops, conditionals, and AI & data activities — exploring how computers learn and how to interact with technology responsibly. No logins, no fuss, just building, coding, and those wonderful "aha" moments.
For our FLL teams, these kits are a perfect match for the kind of creative, challenge-based thinking competitions demand. We cannot wait to see where they take it!

Nelson Mandela Day
On Friday 24 July, the Preparatory will be honouring 67 Minutes for Mandela Day through a hands-on initiative, where learners will work together to prepare sandwiches to donate to those in need in our community. Our aim is to reach 670 sandwiches, celebrating Nelson Mandela’s legacy of kindness, compassion, and service to others.
To support this initiative, learners are invited to contribute by bringing loaves of bread, spreads, paper plates, plastic knives, and tin foil. These items will be used during the 67-minute activity to prepare and pack sandwiches for distribution. Reminder No Nut Butters please as we are a nut free campus
Class teachers will be in touch with further details regarding the specific quantities required per class.
Thank you to our families for supporting this meaningful initiative and helping us spread kindness throughout our community.
💙🍞 🥪
Please ensure that learners arrive on time for the start of the academic day. Parents are welcome to drop their children off between 07:30 and 07:45 and are requested to use the Drop and Go Zone on the SP Campus in Wood Drive.
Parents may pull into the yellow zone for learners to get out and walk into school on their own. Please do not park or leave your car in the Drop and Go Zone.
All learners must be clocked in and ready for the day before this 07:45. Learners who attend early morning activities must clock-in before attending their session in order to avoid being recorded as 'Late Arrival' on the biometric system.
Aftercare is a combined group of Grade 4-6 learners. Parents, please inform the College via email should you wish to make use of our aftercare facility. Learners may wear their Parklands College sports uniform. Learners attending Aftercare will be escorted to the venue. Parents who wish to make use of our aftercare facilities must please inform us via e-mail.
School is LOCKED promptly at 16h45 daily. Please assist us by ensuring that your child is collected on time allowing our dedicated staff to return home to their own families. A late collection fee of R250 per half-hour (or part thereof) will apply for children collected from aftercare after 17h00.
For safety reasons no learners are permitted to wait outside the College gates at any time.
Parents entering our campus are required to have a car identification sticker, which can be collected from reception. By displaying the sticker on your car, you will gain easy access to the College premises. Vehicles that do not have a sticker will be scanned. ‘At the Gate’ Access Solution is used by the College and involves drivers' and car license discs being scanned. This information is stored on a secure database off-site for future reference should the need arise. Pedestrians are also required to produce identification.
We request, for the safety of our learners, that parents and visitors who are on our campus during academic time also sign in at reception and receive a visitors badge. The badge must be returned to reception before leaving campus.
PARKLANDS COLLEGE PARTNERS WITH KLIKD FOR A DIGITAL SAFETY SOLUTION
Parenting in the digital age presents unique challenges. Balancing your child’s need for online interaction with the responsibility of keeping them safe can feel overwhelming. Excluding your child from the digital world might seem isolating, yet providing them with unrestricted access to smart devices without guidance can pose serious risks.
It is vital to equip our children with the skills they need to navigate the digital world confidently, responsibly, and safely. That’s why we are thrilled to announce our partnership with Klikd, South Africa’s leading digital safety and citizenship company. We will be rolling out Klikd’s Digital Citizenship Programme for Schools for Grades 4-6.
About Klikd
Klikd was founded by clinical psychologist Pam Tudin and social media lawyer Sarah Hoffman, combining their expertise to offer an innovative approach to cyber safety and digital citizenship education.
In today’s world, knowing how to handle challenges such as cyberbullying, gaming addiction, inappropriate content, online predators, managing one’s digital footprint and Artificial Intelligence - is no longer optional -it's essential. These aren’t skills that can be taught in a single school talk but require continuous conversations and guidance, reinforced at school and at home.
The Klikd Digital Citizenship Programme for Schools
Through our partnership with Klikd, we will offer a carefully curated programme that provides learners with the tools they need to thrive in the online world. Importantly, it also empowers you, as parents, with weekly practical resources and strategies to support your child on this journey.
