Note that all orders will need to be completed by Wednesday 26 August. Unfortunately, we will not be able to process refunds for learners who are not present or do not collect. If you have more than one child, please complete the form more than once. Note - this is only for children at the Senior Preparatory.
Join us at the end of the quarter to experience an iPad-powered classroom alongside your child. Discover how technology transforms everyday learning at Parklands College Senior Preparatory!
Mark these dates on your calendar:
Grade 4: Monday 21 September @ 08:00-09:30
Grade 5: Monday 21 September @ 13:00-14:30
Grade 6: Thursday 17 September @ 13:00-14:30
In the third quarter, the formal assessments in Grade 4 - 6 will not only consist of control tests in certain subjects (which will require studying), they will also take the form of projects to be completed over a period of a few weeks. The projects will be completed entirely at school, under the guidance of the teachers. While we know that many parents are eager to assist, we kindly ask that you allow your child to complete the project independently within the classroom environment.
Project-based learning is highly beneficial for a number of reasons.
It promotes deeper understanding of academic content by allowing learners to explore topics in greater depth.
It encourages critical thinking and problem-solving.
It fosters independence and accountability, helping children take ownership of their own learning.
It develops research, communication and collaboration skills as learners are often required to work together for certain sections of the project.
It builds confidence as learners realise they are capable of creating something meaningful through their own effort.
These projects are more than just an academic requirement, they are designed to encourage deeper understanding, critical thinking and creativity. We look forward to seeing our learners grow into curious, capable and confident individuals in the process.
Please click on the grade assessment calendars to view the description and content to be studied for the control tests under the Academics tab.
For your convenience, please see an overview of the formal assessment dates for each grade below.
The future requires people who are innovative, humanity-centred, relationship-oriented, compassion-focused, values-driven, globally-conscious and planet-sensitive, in order to guarantee that this generation will become REAL agents of change. The values necessary to sustain life on earth, as humans and environmentalists, are incorporated in five global competencies across our curriculum under our “Growing Minds” banner: Critical Thinkers, Effective Communicators, Purposeful Collaborators, Creative Agents and Responsible Citizens.
In assembly this week, we awarded the following learners with Growing Minds Shields:
The Purposeful Collaborator Trophy is proudly presented to Suriya. She is recognised for always approaching our Responsible Citizen lessons with maturity and thoughtfulness. She carefully considers the values we discuss, contributes meaningfully during our classroom sessions, and collaborates meaningfully with her peers. I am so proud of the thoughtful way she engages with these important lessons! From Ms Hodges
The Responsible Citizen Trophy is proudly presented to Jenna. She has shown incredible responsibility by keeping up with all her schoolwork while away from school, following her timetable and completing her work every day without hesitation or excuses. She returned to school prepared, organised and ready to take on her upcoming assessments. Thank you, Jenna, for your dedication and for leading by example! From Ms Prinsloo
The Effective Communicator Trophy is proudly presented to Lexie. She consistently provides well-thought-out and detailed answers during our English class discussions. She thinks beyond the ordinary and delves deeply into the content, sharing ideas that show maturity and excellent understanding. Lexie also has a wonderful ability to build on the ideas of others, thoughtfully elaborating on points shared by her classmates and helping to enrich our discussions. I am so proud of you, Lexie! Keep sharing your wonderful ideas and letting your voice be heard. From Ms Blewitt
Our Grade 6 learners have been putting their Afrikaans vocabulary into action with a delicious and creative Resep-projek! Each learner chose something they enjoy eating or drinking and wrote their own recipe in Afrikaans, including the correct bestanddele and metode. They practised useful kitchen vocabulary such as sny, skil, meng, giet, roer and sprinkel, while learning how to sequence instructions clearly.
To make the project even more interactive, learners recorded videos of themselves making their recipes while speaking Afrikaans and designed their own creative recipe posters to showcase their work. 🎬🎨
We loved seeing their confidence, creativity and Afrikaans vocabulary come to life! This project was a wonderful reminder that learning a language can be practical, meaningful and delicious! 😋👩🍳
Learners are continuing with their PBL project on satellites and space technology, exploring how innovations developed for space can help us solve real-world problems here on Earth. They are investigating how satellites can assist with environmental monitoring, communication, weather forecasting and disaster management, while working collaboratively to design creative solutions to challenges facing our planet.
Every mission to space has a unique mission patch - small emblem that tells the story of the mission in a single striking design. We invite all learners 12 years old and older to submit a mission patch design to the https://sarooibos.co.za/mission-patch-design-competition website. The winner of the competition will have the honour of having their design selected as the official Rooibos in Space mission patch and featured on campaign materials. There are also some great prizes for first, second and third prizes.
🏆🔬 Congratulations to Our Young Scientists! 🔬🏆
A huge congratulations to all our learners who competed in the Eskom Regional Science Expo last week! 🌟 We are incredibly proud of the dedication, curiosity and hard work they showed throughout their projects.
Presenting their research and ideas on a regional platform was a fantastic achievement, and we are so proud of each learner for stepping outside their comfort zone, embracing the challenge and sharing their scientific thinking. 👏🧪
Well done to our young scientists. Your passion for discovery and innovation inspires us all! 🚀✨. We eagerly await your certificates and look forward to presenting them in assembly soon!

What a fun and exciting week it's been in Grade 5! In Maths we dived into Length and Measurement, popping outside (and around the classroom) to estimate and then measure all sorts of things. Turns out our guesses need a bit more practice than our rulers do!
English had us exploring homonyms and homophones, and honestly, we had a "whale" of a time with it (see what we did there?). In Afrikaans and isiXhosa we're putting the final touches on our writing projects, polishing our dioramas and pulling all our knowledge together for our final pieces.
Makerspace was a highlight this week, with Mr Delport introducing us to the Springbots (a uniquely South African developed piece of educational tech!). We had great fun playing with them and cracking their code, and we're already thinking about how to use them in our weather instruments.
Through it all, our Water Warrior Project rolled on in PSW, as we looked at how our Parklands College families can team up to save every last drop.
Things got wonderfully messy in MakerSpace this week as our Grade 4 learners rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into making their very own paper plant pots!
The learners had to mix, drain, squeeze and mould the paper pulp, carefully working out just the right consistency of water and glue. Too much water? Soggy! Too little? Crumbly! Finding that perfect balance was all part of the challenge.
With hands covered in paper pulp and plenty of laughter along the way, our Grade 4’s experimented with shaping and moulding their pots. They quickly discovered that creating something with their own hands takes a little patience, a bit of trial and error and lots of creativity.
It may have been messy… but it was definitely the fun kind of messy!
More importantly, our learners were developing practical problem-solving skills, learning about materials and consistency and seeing how everyday materials can be transformed into something useful.
Who knew learning could involve so much squishing, squeezing and splashing?
The Great Soundwave Safari: Watching Rice Bust a Move.
Ever wondered what sound actually looks like? Our Grade 4 scientists turned into noise detectives this week to catch invisible soundwaves red-handed.
Armed with their clever "Sound Detectors", beakers stretched drum-tight with plastic wrap and topped with a light scattering of rice grains, our young researchers set off across the campus. Since sound travels as physical vibrations, louder environments pack bigger, wilder energy waves that physically shake objects around them!
Our eager detectives stationed themselves at three distinct hot spots:
The quiet classroom, testing subtle whispers and soft rustles.
The echoey corridors, catching squeaky shoes and chatter.
The boisterous quad and field, testing booming voices and outdoor excitement.
At every station, learners watched their rice grains like hawks. Did they stay totally frozen? Did they do a subtle, jittery wiggle? Or did booming cheers send them launching into an energetic dance party?
By tracking where the rice bounced highest, our Grade 4s successfully mapped out the loudest zones on campus and watched physics come alive in real time. Science isn't just something we read about in books, it's something we can hear, feel, and watch dance right before our eyes!
We are so proud of our brilliant little scientists.
MUSIC:
We invite parents of all current individual music learners, as well as those wishing to commence individual lessons in 2026, to please complete the following enrolment form: 2026 SP Music Form
DANCE:

if you have any queries.
Science Club was all about circuit fun and creativity! Learners explored how electrical circuits work and then took their creations to the next level by incorporating motors. They experimented with different components, tested their ideas and discovered how electricity can be used to create movement. It was a hands-on session filled with creativity, problem-solving and plenty of fun!

We have received two crates of wonderful books from the Herbert family for our libraries. Unpacking the crates is an ongoing feast as we discover treasures like the first Tintin book - did you know it was in black and white and in a different format as the later books? Our favourite book characters are all represented: Alex Rider, Thea Stilton, Tom Gates, Scarlett & Ivy, Greg Heffley. We are thrilled with the lovely Sasol series that we wrote about recently, all about snakes, creepy crawlies and seashore life. There are also more fiction books and a variety of inspiring and informative nonfiction that our readers will devour.
We are so grateful for this generous donation. Thank you to Anna and Callum who are now in our Secondary Faculty, and their parents, for this great gift to our libraries.
A SPECIAL TREAT AHEAD!
Two years ago we met three salty seadogs who spend most of their days on a boat with their humans who are researching sea animals on our coast. Now we are looking forward to another visit from the dogs and a new book: Lucy and the Great White Sharks. Monique Fallows will be visiting us on the 4th of September and share information with the Grade 1 - 4 classes about the great white sharks in our ocean. Please see the information on the books and details on pre-ordering and purchasing on the day.
Just like that, we’ve entered the back end of August! The sun is starting to rise a little earlier, the mornings are getting brighter, and winter is slowly becoming a distant memory.
This week saw our Rugby and Hockey stars back in action, giving it their all across the fields and astro. It’s been fantastic watching our learners continue to grow, compete and represent Parklands with pride as we head towards the end of the Winter Sports season.
Next Friday, we’re bringing back the Bok Friday spirit!
Learners are invited to come to school in their Green and Gold shirts with their PE shorts as we get behind the Bokke and celebrate South African rugby.
So dig out the green and gold, bring the energy, and let’s get the Parkie gees going! 🇿🇦💚💛
And then… we switch gears!
Our Summer Sports Switch takes place on Monday, 7 September, so it’s time to start thinking summer sport.
Dust off those cricket bats and softball mitts - summer is coming!
More information and the full programme will follow, so keep your eyes peeled for all the details.
For now, we’ve still got plenty of Winter Sport to enjoy. Let’s finish the season strongly and make the most of these final weeks!
Green and gold next Friday. Summer sport soon after. Let’s go, Senior Prep!
Another big week of Senior Prep Sport is in the books, with our Hockey and Rugby teams getting valuable match exposure and continuing to build momentum as we head towards the final stretch of the Winter Sports season.

Keep pushing, Senior Prep. The season isn't finished yet!
Chess
Our chess team enjoyed a wonderful home game against West Riding Primary School on 14 August, ending in a well-deserved 3–3 draw. Every chess player gave their very best, and it was wonderful to see how much they have grown in both skill and confidence. Watching the games unfold, we could see careful thinking, clever moves and developing strategies in action. We are incredibly proud of our players and the progress they continue to make. Well done, team! ♟️

Stationery Outreach - Drive Every Donation Makes a Difference
At Parklands College Preparatory, we believe that even the smallest act of kindness can make a meaningful impact. As part of our ongoing commitment to serving our wider community, we are launching a Stationery Outreach Drive to support a school in need.
We invite our families to donate new or gently used stationery that is still in good condition. Items such as pencils, pens, rulers, erasers, sharpeners, glue sticks, crayons, colouring pencils, and other school essentials can make a real difference in a learner's educational journey.
By giving unused stationery a new purpose, we can help equip young learners with the resources they need to thrive in the classroom while encouraging our own children to experience the joy of giving.
Donations can be sent to school until Friday, 4 September.
Thank you for supporting this initiative and for helping us make a positive difference, one stationery item at a time.
Get ready to brighten up our school with a splash of colour, creativity and fun! On Friday 11 September it is Funky Socks Day. Learners are invited to wear their funkiest, brightest and silliest socks with their PE uniform.
This special day is an opportunity to raise awareness of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and show our support for the important work being done to assist children and families affected by FASD. 💛
As part of our initiative, we will be supporting Home of Hope, helping contribute towards the incredible work they do in providing care, support and opportunities for children affected by FASD.
So, dig out those crazy stripes, colourful patterns, mismatched pairs and favourite funky socks, the funkier, the better! 🧦✨
Let’s have some fun, spread awareness and make a difference, one funky sock at a time! 💛🌈
R10 will be charged to the school account for each learner that takes part in aid of this worthy cause.
Please ensure that learners arrive on time for the start of the academic day. Parents are welcome to drop their children off between 07:30 and 07:45 and are requested to use the Drop and Go Zone on the SP Campus in Wood Drive.
Parents may pull into the yellow zone for learners to get out and walk into school on their own. Please do not park or leave your car in the Drop and Go Zone.
All learners must be clocked in and ready for the day before this 07:45. Learners who attend early morning activities must clock-in before attending their session in order to avoid being recorded as 'Late Arrival' on the biometric system.
Aftercare is a combined group of Grade 4-6 learners. Parents, please inform the College via email should you wish to make use of our aftercare facility. Learners may wear their Parklands College sports uniform. Learners attending Aftercare will be escorted to the venue. Parents who wish to make use of our aftercare facilities must please inform us via e-mail.
School is LOCKED promptly at 16h45 daily. Please assist us by ensuring that your child is collected on time allowing our dedicated staff to return home to their own families. A late collection fee of R250 per half-hour (or part thereof) will apply for children collected from aftercare after 17h00.
For safety reasons no learners are permitted to wait outside the College gates at any time.
Parents entering our campus are required to have a car identification sticker, which can be collected from reception. By displaying the sticker on your car, you will gain easy access to the College premises. Vehicles that do not have a sticker will be scanned. ‘At the Gate’ Access Solution is used by the College and involves drivers' and car license discs being scanned. This information is stored on a secure database off-site for future reference should the need arise. Pedestrians are also required to produce identification.
We request, for the safety of our learners, that parents and visitors who are on our campus during academic time also sign in at reception and receive a visitors badge. The badge must be returned to reception before leaving campus.
PARKLANDS COLLEGE PARTNERS WITH KLIKD FOR A DIGITAL SAFETY SOLUTION
Parenting in the digital age presents unique challenges. Balancing your child’s need for online interaction with the responsibility of keeping them safe can feel overwhelming. Excluding your child from the digital world might seem isolating, yet providing them with unrestricted access to smart devices without guidance can pose serious risks.
It is vital to equip our children with the skills they need to navigate the digital world confidently, responsibly, and safely. That’s why we are thrilled to announce our partnership with Klikd, South Africa’s leading digital safety and citizenship company. We will be rolling out Klikd’s Digital Citizenship Programme for Schools for Grades 4-6.
About Klikd
Klikd was founded by clinical psychologist Pam Tudin and social media lawyer Sarah Hoffman, combining their expertise to offer an innovative approach to cyber safety and digital citizenship education.
In today’s world, knowing how to handle challenges such as cyberbullying, gaming addiction, inappropriate content, online predators, managing one’s digital footprint and Artificial Intelligence - is no longer optional -it's essential. These aren’t skills that can be taught in a single school talk but require continuous conversations and guidance, reinforced at school and at home.
The Klikd Digital Citizenship Programme for Schools
Through our partnership with Klikd, we will offer a carefully curated programme that provides learners with the tools they need to thrive in the online world. Importantly, it also empowers you, as parents, with weekly practical resources and strategies to support your child on this journey.

What do they need from you?
This is a child-focused workshop looking at the impact of high-conflict co-parenting and practical ways parents can support their children.
We’ll explore:
How children experience parental conflict.
Signs that your child may be struggling. How to help children feel safe and secure.
