The future requires people who are innovative, humanity-centered, relationship-oriented, compassion-focused, values-driven, globally-conscious, and planet-sensitive, in order to guarantee that this generation will become REAL agents of change. The values necessary to sustain life on earth, as humans and environmentalists, are incorporated in five global competencies across our curriculum under our “Growing Minds” banner: Critical Thinkers, Effective Communicators, Purposeful Collaborators, Creative Agents and Responsible Citizens.
Amanda - Effective Communicator
The Effective Communicator Shield was proudly presented to Amanda for her exceptional ability to express scientific ideas with clarity, thoughtfulness and confidence. Amanda consistently takes time to think carefully before answering, ensuring that her responses are detailed, insightful and well explained. Her ability to communicate her understanding so effectively enriches classroom discussions and reflects a deep engagement with scientific learning.
Cian - Critical Thinker
Cian is awarded the Critical Thinker Trophy for consistently showing excellent scientific inquiry skills. He did a fantastic job of graphing and interpreting data in the rates of dissolving practical, showing the skills of a true scientist.
Oh, what an absolutely spectacular quarter it has been so far for our amazing Grade 6 learners! The classrooms have been buzzing with high energy, friendly rivalries and the kind of team spirit that makes you want to stand up and cheer. Our brilliant learners have been working their socks off to pile up points for their beloved houses: Cambridge, Harvard, Oxford and Yale. These house heroes have been bringing their absolute best to every class activity, proving that teamwork really does make the dream work!
We’ve seen some serious brainpower and lightning-fast fingers in action this quarter. Our learners turned into absolute math wizards during our high-stakes in-class math competitions, solving problems at warp speed. Then, the energy hit the roof during our thrilling Afrikaans grammar Kahoots, where vocabulary skills and speedy tapping combined for some epic digital showdowns! But it hasn't just been about the brains and the trophies; our Grade 6 learners showed their massive hearts by pouring kindness and generosity into our outreach initiatives, proving that true house pride is all about lifting others up.
Hold onto your seats, because the clock is officially ticking! ⏳ With the leaderboard closer than ever, we have just 3 weeks left to see who will be crowned our ultimate Quarter 2 champions. Every single point, every helpful hand and every brilliant answer counts. A massive shoutout to all of our Grade 6 learners for their incredible hard work and fantastic sportsmanship so far. Let's give it everything we've got for this final stretch and may the best house win! 🌟
Mathematics
Our Grade 6 learners recently took part in an engaging Kahoot revision lesson covering content taught during the week. The focus of the lesson was on decimal numbers, with learners practising how to compare and sort decimals into both ascending and descending order.
The Kahoot format encouraged active participation and healthy competition while reinforcing important mathematical concepts. Learners were challenged to look carefully at the value of each digit and consider place value rather than relying on first impressions. Questions included tricky decimal numbers designed to develop accuracy and mathematical reasoning.
It was encouraging to see learners discussing strategies, explaining their thinking, and becoming more confident in their understanding of decimals. The combination of technology, collaboration, and problem-solving created a positive learning environment where revision was both purposeful and enjoyable.
The lesson was a wonderful reminder that Mathematics can be engaging, interactive, and fun while still developing essential skills and critical thinking.
History: The Royal Court Has Spoken: Grade 6 Secure the Crown's Gold
The Great Hall was buzzing with pure brilliance this week as our phenomenal Grade 6 historians turned into full-blown Renaissance inventors. After weeks of intense research, these young geniuses took centuries-old concepts and flipped them on their heads to solve modern-day problems, showcasing a breathtaking collection of intricate sketches, eccentric designs, and cutting-edge Tinkercad models. The stakes were high as they pitched their creations directly to the Royal Court to secure funding, but standing before the "monarchs" with poise and top-tier presentation techniques, they completely blew the judges away. Every single project was so magnificent that the treasury doors were thrown wide open and funding was officially granted to all. A massive congratulations to Grade 6 for their exceptional hard work, imagination, and theatrical flair. We are so proud of you.

What an incredible week it has been in Grade 5! In Maths, we explored 2D shapes, hunting for them around our school environment and diving into the different kinds of triangles and quadrilaterals. In English, our legend writing is nearing completion as we added final edits and brought our stories to life with illustrations. Afrikaans had us unpacking the fascinating difference between homonyms and homophones, while isiXhosa was a highlight of the week. We were thrilled to welcome Refiloe Moahloli, the author of our very own isiXhosa readers, for a special visit! Our Geography space mining project continues to grow, with learners expanding their presentations and crafting impressive machine designs. In PSW, we had a heartfelt discussion about what it truly means to be a good friend.
Congratulations to Fedde on achieving the highest score in the South Africa's Mathletics Hall of Fame, taking Parklands College to the top of the chart! Keep up the great work!
Outing to the Planetarium, Digital Dome, and The Iziko Museum
Looking ahead, we are so excited for our Grade 5 Quarter 2 outing to the Planetarium, Digital Dome, and the Iziko Museum on 17 June 2026. Please complete the consent form as soon as possible to confirm your child's attendance!
What a busy and exciting week it has been in Grade 4!
In English, learners reached the end of our setwork novel, The Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl. The story kept everyone entertained from beginning to end and learners thoroughly enjoyed following Mr Fox's clever adventures as he outsmarted the three farmers. The book sparked many wonderful discussions, predictions and plenty of laughter along the way.
Our Geography lessons took learning beyond the classroom as learners revised plan view and side view through an exciting scavenger hunt around the school. Armed with their iPads, learners searched for different objects, identified their views and captured photographs to support their learning. It was a fantastic hands-on way to reinforce an important concept while exploring our school environment.
In Afrikaans, learners have been discovering the wonderful world of poetry. We have been learning about the different parts of a poem, including stanzas (strofes), lines (reëls), titles (titels) and rhyme patterns (rymwoorde). Learners have enjoyed exploring how poets use words creatively to express ideas and emotions.
It has been wonderful to see our Grade 4 learners engaged, curious and enthusiastic as they continue to learn in creative and meaningful ways!

Music Recital
Please join our Senior Preparatory musicians at our annual Music Recital, taking place on Thursday, 18 June at 18:00 in the Senior Preparatory Hall. The audience can look forward to hearing our Senior Choir, Orchestra, Marimba bands and individual musicians playing various instruments.
On Saturday 30 May, our Design society learners were invited to join Ms Becker for our Open Day art class where we created a cute watercolour artwork. The learners worked with watercolour techniques and how to blend/layer colours. The result is colourful and unique. It was lovely to have them here to bring the space alive during our Open Day celebration.
This week in Science Club, learners continued exploring the Max IQ sensors and focused on using the light sensors to collect data around the school. They measured light intensity and UV levels in different areas, comparing readings from sunny and shaded locations. Learners recorded and analysed their findings, developing their scientific investigation and data collection skills while gaining a better understanding of how light and UV exposure vary in different environments. It was an engaging and practical session that encouraged curiosity and critical thinking.
Big Ideas: Coolest Projects 2026
We are so proud of Mthabisi and Amelia in Grade 5 for representing Parklands College at this year's Coolest Projects worldwide showcase!
Mthabisi's built Spellys — a mobile app that helps South African learners hear and practise Afrikaans pronunciation by reading their word lists back to them, slowly and then at normal speed. Built from scratch over three months using swift playgrounds. Impressive doesn't cover it.
Amelia created an AI-powered Scratch game that uses your device's camera to put you on screen, where you catch falling tacos using face sensing technology. Creative, clever, and seriously fun.
These two show exactly what Parklands learners are made of: curiosity, creativity, and the drive to turn an idea into something real. Well done to you both!

AUTHOR VISIT
"Reading gives comfort. It feels like a warm blanket." Refiloe Moahloli
This week we had the privilege of welcoming one of South Africa’s superstar authors back to our school. Refiloe Moahloli is a multi award-winning children’s author whose books have made a big impact on our children's market. This inspiring young lady grew up in the Eastern Cape. She studied at the University of Witwatersrand where she received a degree in Information Systems. After pursuing a career in the corporate world, she decided to follow her dream of being a children’s author.
For this visit we have focused specifically on our isiXhosa First Additional Language learners as we have recently acquired a new set of readers by Refiloe for classroom use. The main characters, Rorisang and Morena, are twins who first appeared in the popular Know My Name and Part of a Team. They are now back in a new series of readers which were published in four languages, isiXhosa, isiZulu, Afrikaans and English. These books fill a vital gap as a resource in our language teaching and we hope to see this series grow in future. During this session Refiloe introduced the characters and gave more information about them, and also read from her books in both English and isiXhosa.
Refiloe is a wonderful presenter, and had her audience singing, chanting and taking part. She has touched hearts and inspired our learners to pursue their dreams.
Just like that, the final whistles have blown, and our formal sports matches for Quarter 2 have officially come to an end!
A massive thank you to our phenomenal athletes, dedicated coaches, and unwavering parents for an awesome quarter of winter sport. You successfully endured the absolute best of the Cape winter weather - braving the howling winds, biting cold, and driving rain - always showing up with a smile and a competitive spirit.
You have done us proud, but don't get too comfortable, because we're going again in Quarter 3!
Our sights are already firmly set on next quarter. Every single sprint, tackle, pass, and tactical drill we have practiced this quarter has been building towards a historic milestone:
The Event: Our first-ever formal Preparatory Derby Day!
The Date: Saturday, 1 August 2026
The Venue: Blouberg Ridge Primary School
This is going to be a massive day of school pride and fierce competition. We want our teams firing on all cylinders, which means the preparation starts long before the quarter begins.
To ensure our players stay sharp and hit the ground running for the new quarter, we will be hosting high-energy Hockey and Rugby Clinics just before school reopens. These specialised sessions are designed to shake off the holiday cobwebs and refine our game structures for Derby Day.
Please ensure these details are locked into your calendars:
Dates: Monday 20 July & Tuesday 21 July
Time: 09:00 sharp
Hockey Location: Secondary Campus Astro
Rugby Location: Parklands Prep Fields
Whether you want to fine-tune your skills or simply get back into the rhythm with your teammates, these clinics are the perfect launchpad for a successful Quarter 3.
A Message to Our Athletes: The formal matches may have paused, but your growth doesn't have to. The difference between a good team and a great team is what the players choose to do during the off-season.
Enjoy your well-deserved break, rest your bodies, but keep moving! Go for a run, pass a ball in the garden, and stay active. Let's arrive at the July clinics hungry, fit, and ready to make history on the 1st of August.
Thank you for a memorable season of grit and growth. Stay warm, enjoy the holiday period when it arrives, and we will see you on the fields and the Astro in July!
Our Senior Prep athletes left everything on the fields and courts this past week in a fantastic round of fixtures. Facing some incredibly sharp opposition, our teams showed great tactical growth, resilience, and true sportsmanship. Here is how the matches unfolded:
It was a high-tempo round of hockey on the Astro against well-drilled Rallim sides. Our boys ran hard, contested every 50/50 ball, and showed fantastic determination.
U10A: Lost 2-1. A fiercely contested match that could have gone either way. The boys fought until the final whistle. Leon (POTM)
U11: Won 2-0. A clinical performance with a brilliant clean sheet, showcasing excellent passing structures and composure in the D. Fedde & Zach (POTM)
U13: Lost 4-0. A tough day at the office against a very strong attacking side, but the boys never dropped their heads and defended bravely throughout. Haydn (POTM)
Girls Hockey:
U10: Drew 2-2. A thrilling, end-to-end encounter with plenty of drama, where our girls showed fantastic attacking intent to share the spoils. Boikanyo (POTM)
U11: Score Drew 0-0. A highly competitive, energetic fixture with brilliant teamwork on display. Delta (POTM)
U12: Lost 3-2. An absolute nail-biter of a match. The girls played with immense heart and narrowly missed out on a late equaliser. Rachel (POTM)
Our netball squads delivered exceptional energy this week, showing off sharp passing networks and incredible defensive intercepts.
U11: Score Won 12-0. While the official final scoreline is still being verified, our on-court performance was outstanding, with our mid-court and defensive combinations clicking beautifully. Iva & Britney (POTM)
U12: Won 12-0. An absolute masterclass! Our girls dominated from the first centre pass, combining a ruthless attacking display with a flawless, airtight defence. Lukhanyo & Olu (POTM)
Friday Hockey Sports Hour
Please note, all Hockey learners will be transported to the Secondary Faculty for Hockey training on astro at 13h15 - 14h30. All learners will be transported back to Parklands College Senior Prep - no learner will be permitted to be picked up from the Secondary campus.
Blake was selected to represent Milnerton Cricket Club in the U13 CPL Winter Tournament. He was the only U11 in the team, playing with and against boys 2 yrs older. The highlights of the tournament were 3 catches at mid off in one match and 2 innings not out.
Please find a link to the form to notify the College of a learner's external achievements at Area/Regional/Provincial level. We request that you upload an image to the form where possible. Any queries to our Head of Sport, Coach Jared - jmargetts@parklands.co.za
Please ensure that learners arrive on time for the start of the academic day. Parents are welcome to drop their children off between 07:30 and 07:45 and are requested to use the Drop and Go Zone on the SP Campus in Wood Drive.
Parents may pull into the yellow zone for learners to get out and walk into school on their own. Please do not park or leave your car in the Drop and Go Zone.
All learners must be clocked in and ready for the day before this 07:45. Learners who attend early morning activities must clock-in before attending their session in order to avoid being recorded as 'Late Arrival' on the biometric system.
Aftercare is a combined group of Grade 4-6 learners. Parents, please inform the College via email should you wish to make use of our aftercare facility. Learners may wear their Parklands College sports uniform. Learners attending Aftercare will be escorted to the venue. Parents who wish to make use of our aftercare facilities must please inform us via e-mail.
School is LOCKED promptly at 16h45 daily. Please assist us by ensuring that your child is collected on time allowing our dedicated staff to return home to their own families. A late collection fee of R250 per half-hour (or part thereof) will apply for children collected from aftercare after 17h00.
For safety reasons no learners are permitted to wait outside the College gates at any time.
Parents entering our campus are required to have a car identification sticker, which can be collected from reception. By displaying the sticker on your car, you will gain easy access to the College premises. Vehicles that do not have a sticker will be scanned. ‘At the Gate’ Access Solution is used by the College and involves drivers' and car license discs being scanned. This information is stored on a secure database off-site for future reference should the need arise. Pedestrians are also required to produce identification.
We request, for the safety of our learners, that parents and visitors who are on our campus during academic time also sign in at reception and receive a visitors badge. The badge must be returned to reception before leaving campus.
PARKLANDS COLLEGE PARTNERS WITH KLIKD FOR A DIGITAL SAFETY SOLUTION
Parenting in the digital age presents unique challenges. Balancing your child’s need for online interaction with the responsibility of keeping them safe can feel overwhelming. Excluding your child from the digital world might seem isolating, yet providing them with unrestricted access to smart devices without guidance can pose serious risks.
It is vital to equip our children with the skills they need to navigate the digital world confidently, responsibly, and safely. That’s why we are thrilled to announce our partnership with Klikd, South Africa’s leading digital safety and citizenship company. We will be rolling out Klikd’s Digital Citizenship Programme for Schools for Grades 4-6.
About Klikd
Klikd was founded by clinical psychologist Pam Tudin and social media lawyer Sarah Hoffman, combining their expertise to offer an innovative approach to cyber safety and digital citizenship education.
In today’s world, knowing how to handle challenges such as cyberbullying, gaming addiction, inappropriate content, online predators, managing one’s digital footprint and Artificial Intelligence - is no longer optional -it's essential. These aren’t skills that can be taught in a single school talk but require continuous conversations and guidance, reinforced at school and at home.
The Klikd Digital Citizenship Programme for Schools
Through our partnership with Klikd, we will offer a carefully curated programme that provides learners with the tools they need to thrive in the online world. Importantly, it also empowers you, as parents, with weekly practical resources and strategies to support your child on this journey.
